Research
Research for a world where everyone belongs
Our research makes belonging visible. Through data, lived experience, and collaborative inquiry, we explore how connection is shaped—and how it can be strengthened across people, place, power, and purpose.
Research is central to how the Belonging Forum understands and advances belonging.
We generate evidence, surface lived experience, and create shared language that helps people see where belonging is thriving, where it is under strain, and what it takes to strengthen it. Our work spans measurement, storytelling, and collaborative inquiry—connecting global perspectives with local realities.
Our Research Initiatives
Belonging Barometer
A large-scale research initiative measuring belonging and social connectedness across the UK. The Barometer offers insight into how people experience belonging—and where it can be strengthened.
Belonging Signal
A Canadian-focused research initiative capturing how belonging is experienced across communities today. Belonging Signal surfaces timely insights that reflect the realities of connection and disconnection.
Belonging Research Lab
A space for inquiry, collaboration, and evidence-building. The Belonging Research Lab brings together researchers, practitioners, and communities to deepen understanding and support belonging-centred change.
Samuel Fellows in Belonging
A global program supporting emerging leaders to explore belonging through research and practice. Fellows contribute new perspectives, grounded in lived experience and community-based work.
From insight
to action
Together, these initiatives form a connected research ecosystem. We measure belonging at scale, capture lived experience, and support new voices and ideas. This work helps us understand where belonging is strong, where it is under strain, and how it can be strengthened in the systems that shape everyday life.
