Today, Kim Samuel joined an esteemed panel at the University of Oxford addressing the “Meaning and Politics of Loneliness”.  Kim’s presentation, entitled “A Poverty of Belonging: Why Advancing Global Development Depends on Combatting Social Isolation”, offers unique insight from international development experiences and concludes by providing a framework for policymakers to commit to building social connectedness.

Journalist George Monbiot and political theorist Kimberley Brownlee joined Kim for a critical discussion about the meaning, causes, and implications of loneliness in our time.  George Monbiot is one of the leading contemporary writers on “the age of loneliness“. Kimberley Brownlee is a professor of philosophy at the University of Warwick and will have a book shortly published on social connectedness and social contact. The event was organized by Max Harris, Examination Fellow at All Souls College.
